Experiences of an agency intern
Despite the skills a Business degree gives you, employees are still eager for you to have experience in your chosen field of work.
When I started looking for a summer internship in January, Coronavirus was a relatively new issue. Something you occasionally saw in the news but never thought it would impact on the working lives of people to such an extent. Fortunately, Show+Tell were still willing to take me on, regardless of the difficult circumstances.
As everyone was working from home, there were some challenges in terms of being taught remotely. However, I feel as if I’ve learnt just as much, if not more than I would have if I had been in the office. I was given responsibilities right from the start and was treated like a real member of the team. The daily morning calls really helped me settle in and get to know everyone on a personal level.
I mainly worked in digital marketing and even dabbled in SEO – something that I had no experience in and surprisingly really enjoyed. I started off with getting to grips with Google Ads and Analytics. By the end of 10 weeks I had got to know these platforms well and was able to create a digital ad campaign. Most days I worked on various social media platforms, creating and uploading content but also doing outreach for both Show+Tell and their clients. Something I really enjoyed about working for Show+Tell was the variety that an agency provides, both in terms of tasks but also clients. This truly did make everyday different and I was excited to start each new challenge.
Despite the difficult conditions of the past few months, I feel as if I’ve gained the experience I needed to start my career in marketing. And although the process of finding a placement seems daunting, I feel prepared and excited to start thanks to Show+Tell.
