Google Penguin 3.0 is out – could you be affected?
Google has released the long awaited Penguin 3.0 update over the weekend, a day earlier than the official announcement from Google. The last Penguin update was in October 2013 so it’s been a long time coming.
The new Google algorithm has been created to penalise old spammy SEO techniques of unnatural link building on websites. This will affect the kind of cheap SEO packaging that are often outsourced to India or link farms where website owners can buy 1000’s of links for minimal cost to quick Google ranking gains. Any websites that have been engaged in this type of SEO we expect to be hit hard.
The last couple of Penguin updates in 2012 and 2013 have targeted spammy SEO tactics such as directory listing links, anchor text keyword and link farm networks but the new Penguin algorithm will take it a step further in fishing out unnatural link building.
During the last Penguin updates, we heard of many website having upto 95% of their website traffic gone instantly and we’d expect the same to happen this time round. Brand of all sizes will be affected.
